The Situation

China has been the largest source country for international students in New Zealand for over a decade, accounting for nearly one third of all international students in the country in 2018.

Education New Zealand typically holds its annual NZ Education Week offline in China but due to the pandemic in 2020, ENZ partnered with Dragon Trail to deliver its first ever virtual Education Week.

The event firstly aimed to bring together professionals from China and New Zealand to share knowledge and best practices across university, vocational and early childhood education via a series of online forums. Secondly, it aimed to position New Zealand as a top destination for Chinese international students via an exhibition of NZ educational institutions and a 1-on-1 meetings platform to facilitate business meetings between Chinese international education agents and the NZ institutions.

The Results

– More than 1,200 Chinese and NZ education professionals attended the forum sessions
– More than 350 1-on-1 meetings conducted between NZ educational institutions and Chinese international education agents

Our Work

Using our digital event platform, we helped ENZ deliver an integrated NZ Education Week event experience over five days, with unique forum tracks and guestlists for each of three key sectors. Featuring live and pre-recorded sessions, forum attendees could also interact via live Q&A sessions, audience comment streams and live polls.

Alongside the forum component, we also launched a NZ education exhibition for more than 45 NZ educational institutions. The exhibition was attended by invited Chinese international education agents who could browse the exhibitor “booths” and download marketing and sales materials about New Zealand’s range of international study programs. Our platform’s integrated 1-on-1 meeting module supported more than 350 business meetings between the institutions and education agents via video call and chat, supporting NZ’s education sector to develop more international student business from China and collect extensive data for long-term business development.
